The Yamaha YZF-R2 joins the R15 in the brand’s lineup and becomes the latest motorcycle in the family carrying the R-series pedigree. The motorcycle gets a newly designed chassis, with its weight reduced by over 2 kg compared with the R15 while maintaining rigidity. With this construction, the YZF-R2 weighs 149 kg, making it the lightest motorcycle in the segment.
Powering the Yamaha YZF-R2 is a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 26.1 bhp of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and comes with a slip-and-assist clutch as standard. The Mid and M variants are offered with a quickshifter as standard.
The motorcycle is equipped with a 282mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc brake. Its suspension setup comprises adjustable inverted front forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The YZF-R2 rides on 17-inch wheels and has a seat height of 810 mm.
The Yamaha YZF-R2 retains the signature styling associated with the brand’s R-series motorcycles. It features aggressive styling with a full fairing and layered design. The front fascia gets sleek LED lights and DRLs, while the sculpted fuel tank and sharp tail section continue design elements previously seen on the R15 and R3 in India.
The motorcycle is available in five colour options: Metallic Black, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue, and Metallic Gray. The Gray paint option is limited to the top-end variant.
Riders can choose from four riding modes: Street, Rain, Sport and Custom. The R2M additionally gets a 5-inch TFT screen, smart key, adjustable levers and footpegs, among other features.
With its 204cc engine, lightweight chassis, multiple riding modes and R-series styling, the Yamaha YZF-R2 expands the brand’s motorcycle lineup in India, with deliveries set to begin in September 2026.
